Graph showing testosterone levels over time. Starting on left at 20 years old with 30 nmol/L, then slow decrease down to right to less than third of that amount at 70 years old.

Andropause is when men who are 50-60 years old are not producing enough testosterone and their body produces too much estrogen. Fat cells (obesity) are the biggest producer of estrogen in a male which also increase a man’s risk of prostate cancer. Men will develop Gynecomastia (breast buds) because of the excess estrogen in their body. Proper liver and GI function are important for detoxifying the excess estrogen out of the body.

Traditional lab tests are adequate to determine andropause in a male. Total and Free testosterone, Fractionated Estrogen, FSH, LH, Free T3, TSH, CMP, GGT can be ordered.
